Hanami 2026

Comme Celabrate Spring Magic (HANAMI)
with Voyage Culinaire Japonais

Each year, at the start of spring, Japan experiences a moment of breathtaking beauty: the blooming of the sakura (cherry blossoms). This period, tracked like a weather phenomenon thanks to the Sakura Zensen (cherry blossom front), attracts visitors from around the world. In 2026, full bloom (Mankai) in Tokyo is expected around March 21. It’s the perfect time to experience Hanami!

But what is Hanami? Literally meaning “flower viewing” (花見), this centuries-old Japanese tradition is far more than just quiet contemplation. It’s a social ritual where people gather with friends or family, typically beneath the flowering trees, for a springtime meal. Leave the daily stress behind: bento boxes are brought out, sake is shared, and the present moment is savored.

What makes sakura so special is its fleeting nature. The bloom lasts only about a week. This impermanence, which the Japanese call Mono no aware, serves as a poetic reminder that life is beautiful and precious precisely because it is transient.
